Camera Tower, Camera Vehicle or Night Guard? Woodland Hills After-Hours Guide
A lot that sits empty from closing time to morning needs to be watched, not necessarily staffed. Here is how to pick the right setup for your Woodland Hills property.

Most of the calls we get from Woodland Hills about after-hours coverage start the same way: something happened overnight. A catalytic converter is gone from the back lot, someone slept in the stairwell of an empty building, or tools walked off a job site over the weekend. The owner wants it to stop, and the first question is usually whether that means paying a guard all night.
Often it does not. For many sites, solar camera towers and AI surveillance vehicles remotely viewed by our team cover the empty hours, and people are added only where people are needed. This guide walks through how to decide.
Three tools for the same empty hours
A solar security camera tower is a trailer with a telescopic mast and PTZ cameras that pan, tilt and zoom. It runs on solar power, so it works on sites that do not have power yet, and the mast lifts the cameras above fencing, equipment and parked cars. LDG's team remotely views the cameras.
An AI surveillance vehicle is a marked LDG security vehicle with a 4K AI camera on each corner for 360° coverage. On-camera AI flags people and vehicles, our team views the live feed, and the vehicle adds a siren, warning lights and two-way talk so we can speak to anyone on site. It parks like a car, which matters on tight driveways and narrow streets.
A night guard is a licensed security guard on the property for the hours you choose. A guard can check doors, walk the building, open a gate for a late delivery and talk to people face to face. That is the right tool when the job needs hands, not just eyes.
None of these is better across the board. The best plan depends on what the site is, what it holds and what you need to happen when someone shows up.
When a camera tower fits
A tower makes sense when the site has room for a trailer and the risk is spread across an open area:
- Construction sites along Ventura Boulevard, Topanga Canyon Boulevard and the streets around Warner Center, where materials, equipment and copper sit on site overnight and over weekends.
- Surface parking lots behind offices, medical buildings and retail, where break-ins and catalytic converter theft tend to happen after closing.
- Vacant buildings and lots between tenants or waiting on redevelopment.
- Long projects where coverage is needed for weeks or months, not a permanent install.
Because the tower is trailer-mounted, it moves when the project changes. A builder can start with it at the material yard and shift it to the new building once the frame goes up.
When the AI surveillance vehicle fits better
The hillside streets south of Ventura Boulevard and in the neighborhoods above it are narrow and winding. A trailer does not always fit, and blocking a neighbor's driveway creates a new problem. There, the camera vehicle usually works better: it parks in a driveway or at the edge of the site, it is visibly a security vehicle, and the siren, lights and speaker let our team warn someone off before they reach the gate.
The vehicle is also the faster option when a site needs cameras right away, such as after a break-in or before a long weekend.
When you still want a person on site
Cameras watch and warn. They do not lock a door someone left open or sign in a late delivery. Consider a guard, alone or with a camera unit, when:
- The building has tenants, staff or deliveries in the evening.
- Someone needs to walk the inside of a building, not just the outside.
- The site has a gate that has to be opened and closed for people.
- You need a person on site during the most likely hours, such as the first hours after a crew leaves.
For sites that only need a few checks a night, mobile patrol visits sit between the two: a patrol officer stops by on a schedule, and the camera unit covers the time in between.
Common plans we build in Woodland Hills
- Tower only. A construction site or empty lot with a camera tower remotely viewed by LDG from the end of the workday to the morning, and through weekends.
- Vehicle at the entrance. A hillside remodel with the camera vehicle at the driveway, where it is the first thing anyone sees.
- Guard plus camera. A licensed guard for the evening hours while people are still coming and going, then the camera unit for the rest of the night.
- Camera plus patrol. A tower or vehicle covering the site, with patrol visits added on the nights you choose.
Whatever the mix, you agree on a plan with us before the unit goes on site: who we contact, when we send a patrol officer if your plan includes one, and when we call local authorities.
What it costs
Our published rates are the same across Los Angeles County:
- AI Vehicle Surveillance Program: $1,500 to $6,000 a month, depending on surveillance alone or a stationary AI camera vehicle with multiple patrols.
- Unarmed or armed security guards: $40 to $60 an hour.
- Off-duty police officers: $80 to $100 an hour, for events and posts that call for them.
- Mobile patrol and camera towers: quoted per property after a site review.
Longer service agreements bring lower rates, and requests with less than seven days' notice carry an upcharge. Every quote is confirmed before service. The full breakdown is on our rates page. For a site that sits empty most of the night, a camera unit plus a few targeted hours of staffing usually costs less than a guard for every hour.

Frequently asked questions
Is a security camera tower cheaper than a night guard?
For a site that is empty most of the night, a camera unit usually costs less than paying a guard for every hour. Our AI Vehicle Surveillance Program runs $1,500 to $6,000 a month, guards are $40 to $60 an hour, and camera towers are quoted per site.
Does someone actually watch the cameras?
Yes. LDG's team remotely views the tower and vehicle cameras. It is not just a recorder that someone checks the next morning.
What happens if someone ignores the warnings?
LDG follows the plan you set with us. That can include contacting you, sending a patrol officer if your plan includes one, and calling local authorities.
Does a camera tower need power on site?
No. The towers are solar-powered, so they work on construction sites and lots that do not have power yet.
Can we combine a camera unit with a guard?
Yes. A common plan is a licensed guard for the evening hours when people are still on site, then the camera unit for the rest of the night.
